College of Business Computer Recommendations

The Gies College of Business mainly only requires a device capable of running the basic Microsoft Office suite to complete the coursework. Tech Services provides access to all specialized software that faculty requests for their courses in the various computer labs across campus and through UIUC AnyWare virtual computers.

  • Minimum of 8GB of memory but 16GB would be preferred.
  • Minimum of 256GB of SSD storage is recommended.
  • PC or Mac is user preference.
  • PC computers will need at least an i5 10th gen processor.
  • Internet connection should be at least 10Mbps Down/3Mbps Up per person on the same network (i.e. a shared apartment with three students would need ~30 down/10 up) to work well with Zoom and MediaSpace

While tablets and iPads are still great for taking notes on, they are not recommended to be used as primary devices.

Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are available to all students free of charge from the Webstore (software purchases and support.)
