If your major is undecided, not to worry. The University does not require a particular computer platform, but instead highly recommends that students’ machines meet minimum University requirements, which are as follows:
That your computer is less than 3 years old,
Have at least 8GB of RAM, 16GB is preferred.
Has WPA2-capable wireless connectivity (external link), and
Has an a/ac/g/n wireless card.
You should be able to check email, write papers, and run the software necessary to use the campus network.
*NOTE: Technology Services at Illinois recommends more RAM, a faster
processor, and a larger hard drive if you plan to use more
advanced applications such as Adobe Creative Suite or
computer-aided design (CAD). For PCs, it is generally
recommended to have at least Windows 10.
